Alberto Kozub: In a recent game, my opponent took my bishop that had been on black. I got a pawn across the board and the when he reached the other side he was on a white square. I took my bishop back and he went on that white spot. I then has 2 bishops on white. My opponent and I are debating if this legal, since I now had 2 bish! ops on white. Devon Kalberer: I'd be willing to bet a lot lower. A 1300 player is not a complete bum in the world of tournament chess.He may surprise you. He may know things you don't.Also, if you're not used to slower chess, the guys who take their time will be completely unimpressed with any trap attempts.To play slow chess, you have to become more positional.Tactics will always be a part of the game, but they're used different in tournament.More defensive players do a lot better. Learning to keep pawn chains intact is a very nice skill that blitz doesn't make that much use of! . A good positional player may surprise you and you'll find yo! urself slowly crushed.I think real chess is played slow, though.That's my opinion.Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if at first, you found yourself only a 1225. It's not to discourage you. It's a different kind of chess. Possibly you have the common misconception that you can only promote a pawn to an already captured piece. You can p! romote a pawn to any piece you want, other than a king or another pawn.! Pick any object you can find, like a random bolt around the house, and call that a whatever other piece you prefer.Pawn promoting to a queen is always better than either a rook or a bishop. Edmund Rappley: Yes, this is legal, but unusual. Why not promote the pawn to a queen as it can move the same as a bishop and a lot more besides. Promoting a pawn usually comes down to either queen or knight. Remember you can promote a pawn to anything. Not just the pieces that your opponent has taken.
