Andrew Sinatra: As a general rule, starchy foods are high in carbohydrates, meats and legumes are high in protein, and fruits are high in sugars and fibers.Foods like pasta, bread, potatoes all would be high in carbs, but you'd need to provide more details about your specific diet for a more accurate answer.

Joellen Zorrilla: Chocolate and cheese shouldn't be taken in the same meal--it can give you a migraine headache. It does me. Melon, I've heard, should be eaten on its own. No danger or anything, just for better digestion. Some people say that fruit shouldn't be eaten at the end of a meal, but at the start, because fruit is digested in 20 minutes whereas meat etc. can take hours. So if you've eaten a lot of fruit on top of meat, the fruit just sits there and starts its first stage of decomposition. I suppose this just means you miss out on some of its vitamins. Most "food combination" advice I've heard is about what to do rather than not to do, eg you should be e! ating iron foods with vitamin C. You're also advised to drink plain water at least half an hour before a meal, because water is good for you but you don't want to dilute your digestive juices too much; it stops you digesting food efficiently....Show more
