Costly car maintenance (Honda specifically)?

Gus Leiby: Buy American...

Karey Dunken: you need to decide what maintenance you DON'T want to do....skip tranny flush? bad idea...they probably want to change power steering fluid ..skip it maybe...but dont complain when you need a new rack/pinion at 125.000 miles...same with brake fluid...in old days there's were not changed...but are needed today [because of use of aluminum and lighter weight parts].. change coolant...factory sez 3 yrs/36K miles...coolant wears out...clogs heater.....if your gona sell car in next 3 yrs do nothing...if your driving it into the ground do all thats needed...Show more

Thomas Riner: While I agree with some of what "BIG" says.. I believe proper preventive maintanance will save money..I currently have 3 American made cars (all GM) with over 300k on them..I have followed reccomended services but not at a GM store...I found a good reputable local service ctr thru referrals and did as my maint manual said..it has paid off for me, as! all three have original engines and transmissions..I would not use a chain store unless the tech that works there has a great reputation..I always go the same shop as they know my vehicle and have a work history on all of them..if I have a problem I never get a hassle..I get excellent service...Think about it and it makes sense......Show more
