Ellis Cellar: Still most of a cars body is made from steel. Cars today are made much different than those made 30 years ago. Cars now have sub frames, and unibody design which make them lighter and absorb impact much better. But to answer the question.....Cost.
Ardelia Liptow: Most of the previous answers are close, but the real answer is lighter weight to meet CAFE standards for fuel economy.
Carter Edstrom: cars made of steel are heavy and are very expensive to repair. manufacturers refer using lighter materials like plastic and aluminum etc. because its easy to mass produce and a lot easier and cheaper to replace. safety wise though steel is stronger than aluminum but still defers from what kind of car it is and its safety rating. hope this helps
Cortez Badolato: because that's not how they make them anymore its the future
Lyman Gauld: Cars Made Of Steel
Moira Woodrow: What's happening is that there is a comparatively new class of steel! , ultra high strength steel, or advanced high strength steel (AHSS), materials with yield strengths in excess of 550 MPa.The conventional high strength steels (HSS) fall within the range of 210 to 550 MPa. The differences between the two types of material are a result of the way they are produced......
